Merry Christmas Eve everyone! Last night, to get into the holiday mood, Hannah and I watched The Santa Clause with my parents. Every year we watch this movie, and I remember loving it for my entire life. Last night, about halfway through the movie, our AP English-ed minds began to kick in, and the thorough analysis began. We took a careful look at the chronology throughout the film- they pass over a year very quickly, but neither of us had ever before noticed this gap. We discussed how they made this transition so seamless, with the subtle weather changes throughout the film and holiday decorations changing in the background.
At one point, my dad questioned our analysis, joking, “Must you guys find flaws in The Santa Clause, of all things?” This got me thinking- our questioning did not make me enjoy the movie any less- in fact, I gained a new appreciation for how well the film makers transitioned time in the film. I love how our instinct to analyze causes us to think about simple things on a deeper level, and I think this trait will continue to help us realize things about the world around us. Enjoy the rest of break!

Brooke, I had a very similar experience with the movie Millions earlier this week. I came to the same conclusion- that AP English has improved me. Despite all the complaining about SOAPSTones, and realizations that data sheets are ten times worse (and so require ten times more complaining) all our work has been completely worth it because we are smarter and more observant people.
